The Fourth Form Parents Curry Supper, 11th May 2018

The Fourth Form Parents Curry Supper was an excellent and well attended evening, despite the postponed date due to the snow last term. Thank you very much to everyone who helped to set up from Boarders to parents, especially Simone and Helen for creating the "Bollywood" theme and to the Harrison's team for their delicious curry.

Quiz Night, 27th April 2018

Quiz Night was a closely fought contest with over 100 parents from accross the St Catherine's "family" competing for the much-coveted Golden Goose. The scores were all quite respectably close but clear. The top 2 teams were joint parent-teachers' ones with new champion "Bucks Quiz" just beating the defending champion :"Sink like a Stone" by 2 points. They won the Golden Goose and some Goose Bay wine and some chocolates. The Wooden Spoon went to "Law and Order" who only had 4 people, but actually per capita did extremely well to stay so close to the other teams of 9 or 10. They also jointly won the most bizarre answer with the long-serving team "Past and Present".

Thank you to everyone who helped during the evening from L4 "Answer Angels" who did all the running to the team of scorers and the IT team who helped to make the event more multi-media and to Andrew Price and the Harrison's team for the delicious fish and chips. Particular thanks go to Juan who re-formatted the event.

U3 Curry Supper, 6th October 2017

when the PTA welcomed new parents to the School.

Digital Archive

The Digital Archive was on display on Foundation Day, 24 September 2017.  The St Catherine’s Senior School PTA sponsors the Archive, with funds raised from parents’ participation in School social events during 2016 and 2017.

St Catherine’s School was founded in 1885 and the School’s Digital Archive contains material stretching back to those early days: original documents relating to the School’s establishment, the register of the first pupils, and many photographs of past pupils and staff. The Digital Archive currently includes material up to 1960. New material, including more photographs, will continue to be added. This is an incredible resource for the School, alumnae and parents which allows fast, easy access to the School’s history and protects many of its most at risk historical assets.

New Girls and Parents Welcome Afternoon 6th September 2017

Parents, school staff and PTA members gathered for tea to welcome the new girls and their parents. Veronica Povey, Chair of the Senior School PTA, took the opportunity to introduce the PTA as an important link between the school and parents. Our aim is to build a sense of community and to help building networks and friendships, as well as raising funds that are used to purchase and support developments for the benefit of the girls. We do hope everybody feels very welcome!

Speech Day 8th July 2017

What a wonderful Speech Day we had with an inspirational speaker in Emily Revess. With perfect weather conditions for picnics and a lovely afternoon programme of music and dance events, and wonderful displays of so many areas of school life, there was much to do, see and celebrate at the end of the 2017-18 academic year. The PTA provided a BBQ & Hog Roast which was very popular and sold out rather quickly. The PTA bar and our stalls with strawberries & cream as well as various ice creams were equally high in demand. Altogether a very joyful experience for everybody.

Quiz Night, 28th April 2017

Over 180 parents, ex parents and sixth formers gathered on 27 April for 2017 Quiz Night.  Massive congratulations to the winning team "Sink Like a Stone" who took home the coveted Golden Goose and wine vouchers generously provided by Taurus Wines.  It was a hotly competitive atmosphere that required firm handling from our excellent Quiz Master, PTA Committee member, Caroline Good.  Thanks go to Nickie Smith and John Reeves for compiling the quiz with something for everyone and rounds ranging from history, geography, politics and culture.  And, of course, the ever popular picture round.  Big thanks also to Taurus Wines for the lovely selection of wines on the night and to the amazing St Cats Catering team for serving up delicious fish and chips and chocolate brownies.

PTA Lecture: Alex Fryer, Tuesday 14th March 2017

Talking to your children about sex - a talk by Alex Fryer

Alex is one of the UK’s leading PSHE Speakers specialising in issues around sex and relationships. She has many years of experience providing information and advice to both young people and their parents.  Alex is well known to St Catherine’s and comes and speak to our girls regularly as part of the PSHE/Life Matters curriculum.

Her talk centred around what she covers with our girls, communicating with our children about sex and relationships, how to go about it and why it is so important. The impact of the Internet and social media means that they are constantly exposed to the normalisation of abnormal behaviour, not least of all when it comes to relationships and sex. We cannot protect young people from this but we can help them to make better sense of it and by providing relevant and helpful information we can help them make better choices and so avoid emotional and physical harm.

We are delighted that we have been able to secure her to speak to St Cats parents this year. Following on from Alex Fryer’s excellent talk to PTA, there are notes on the additional resources she recommended available here.

4th Form Supper, 27th January 2017

A super social evening for 4th Form parents, both Lower and Upper, who had the opportunity to mix across their daugther's year group and meet staff accross the School. Around 70 guests enjoyed an informal and social evening. Parents were then able to mingle and meet old and new friends and enjoy a wonderful curry supper provided by the school caterers.

Christmas Party, 3rd December 2016

Over 200 gathered for the annual PTA Christmas Dinner Dance for a wonderful evening that heralded the Christmas season!

The dining hall was transformed with the use of a marquee lining into a fabulous party space with twinkly lights adorning the tables to create a festive mood. After welcome drinks, parents were able to enjoy a fabulous 3 course dinner and then dance the night away to a very popular DJ. It was a fantastic evening, with a great party atmosphere and just what was needed to get everyone into the Christmas spirit.

U3 Curry Supper, 7th October 2016

Each year the PTA hosts a supper party for U3 parents to offer them a chance to get to know other parents within their daughter's year group, to discuss School logistics and enjoy the School's incredible catering. Nearly 100 parents attended this informal curry supper. All arrived to see the hall laid out with balloons representing the house colours and after welcome drinks all were invited to seat within their houses for a delicious meal. It was a very relaxed evening thoroughly enjoyed by all attending.

New Parents Tea, 7th September 2016

Speech Day, 2nd July 2016

As ever, the PTA were on hand to make Speech Day a great success.

There was a choice of BBQ food and drinks served from a range of gazebos, ice creams and strawberries featured too. The atmosphere was buzzing as everyone enjoyed the refreshments and some longed for sunshine, after days of rain.

The party atmosphere was further enhanced by the Concert Band who gave a most professional performance and really added to the mood of the occasion. A great day was had by all!

Quiz Night, 22 April 2016

Over 160 parents and two tables of 6th formers joined the Quiz Night. Congratulations go to the winning team Not Bloody Fish Again! (L6) who collected the fabulous Golden Goose and won the wine vouchers generously provided by Taurus Wines.  Our PTA member, Caroline Good, made an excellent Quizmaster and the teams vied for position with questions across music, culture, sport, politics and geography.  The picture round created lots of debate!  Our thanks go to Taurus again who offered a great selection of wines on the night and to the St Cat’s Catering team who as ever delivered a great fish and chips supper followed by their famous chocolate brownies.
